In addition to the activities of the Club itself we have established “Special Interest Groups”, SIGs, where club members can engage in other photographic activities outside the main body of the club and are run on non-club evenings/weekends.
Currently we have two SIGs:-
The Photo and Editing Group
The Photo and Editing group are a small group of members who enjoy each other’s company and have a common interest of going on photo shoots and learning editing techniques from each other.
The group meets every 6-8 weeks.
The Objective of the Group is for members to meet socially and find interesting locations to take photos and learn new photo editing techniques. Where each members takes a turn in selecting & organising the monthly photo shoot locations. Group meetings/meals are organised as and when required in a local pub during the year.
The group shares its images via a private Facebook page and has also developed an expanding library of “How To …..” guides providing members with step by step instructions in various editing techniques. These “Guides” are maintained in the “Members area”.

The Creative Group
The creative group is for club members who wish to develop and progress their image making through imaginative and artistic approaches to picture creation. The group operates mainly online by the sharing of images from set monthly projects. Constructive and supportive critique is given of images posted from projects. Help sheets are provided and links to relevant online material is available. Out of the club season the group works on a thematic approach, again sharing online.
Topics to include:
- Taking photographs – Not only looking but ‘seeing’ the creative potential of subject matter. Creative use of shutter speed and aperture; intentional camera movement; composition; viewpoint selection; exploiting perspective with wide angle & telephoto lenses; using the visual elements (e.g. line, shape, pattern, texture etc.); Close-up and macro; Referencing inspiring and iconic photographers and painters
- Post-capture editing and manipulation in Photoshop (or similar) – image selection; basic editing and cropping; monochrome conversions; using layers and layer masks for selection; layer blending modes; photomontage; simulating blur; sepia toning; silhouettes; symmetry; image editing plugins; graphic imagery; abstraction; minimal imagery etc.
